Suki’s Story

From November 20, 2022:

Confession of a dog rescuer - we never really stop rescuing. Even when we have a house full of dogs (and sometimes cats and kids, too). Even when it’s hard to find new volunteers and new fosters are nearly nonexistent. When we meet a dog like Suki, our hearts melt, and we will do anything, everything, to get them to safety.

When Suki’s finder Alli isn’t moonlighting as singer extraordinaire Petunia Breedlove at Howl at the Moon, she is a full-time Realtor, mom to Miriam, and SDF board member. We are sharing Alli’s video from her POV as the rescuer!

From Alli:

I pulled up at the school to drop off Miriam and saw this pup hobbling up to all the kids with a big smile and a very waggy tail. I could tell she was limping badly, but I couldn’t see why.

I was so distracted by her that I forgot to get my kiddo out for a second. When I hopped out, she ran up to me, I saw her broken little leg, and my heart sank. Since Miriam’s disabled, I have a pretty soft spot for a handicapped pupper. I saw the kiddo off to school and watched as Suki ran up to every kid who walked into the school. She tried to run into the school and follow all the kids, but she got kicked out time after time.

I heard the principal say someone was coming to get her, and I piped up to ask who. “Oh, I’m sure the shelter will be here soon to get her.”

I walked back to my car and sat there, and cried for a second. As I watched her hobble away defeated, I jumped out of the car and whistled at her to come to me, and she ran back so excited. I told her it was gonna be ok, and I would take her from here! On the way to Grace Animal Hospital, you could tell she knew it would be ok!

From Medical:

Suki’s injury is a really bad break that has healed improperly. She’s been managing it for several months, by what Doc can tell.

She’s full of worms, so she’ll need immediate treatment. Once she is empty of worms and gains a few pounds, Doc will spay her. Then after her spay heals, he will amputate the leg.

Suki is in great spirits and happy to join the Streetdog pack. She’s dog and kid-friendly, and we have no doubt she will live a full life as a tri-pawd!
